About Us

Cenote Springs is the only quality Pygora breeder in Florida offering the finest Registered Pygora Breeders Association (PBA) goats from renowned lineages from very prominent breeders throughout the United States.  The summer heat does not seem to affect them or their ability to produce quality fleece.  They thrive and prosper at our farm, however, we do keep overhead fans to adequately ventilate their houses in the summer.  Otherwise, the remainder of the year our Pygoras are playing and sleeping outside in the moderate temperature.

Over ten years ago, we literally sold the farm up in the Midwest and moved down to Florida.  Cooped up in a housing development near the water gave us no privacy.  Unhappy without any animals and lack of solitude, we moved further south to the Gulf of Mexico side of Florida and purchased 10 acres of pristine land.  The word “Cenote” is Spanish for sink hole.  We found the perfect isolated location to raise animals. However, after raising every farm animal imaginable, we couldn’t decide what type animal or animals we wanted to raise, but we did know that we wanted to do something different.  One day a friend mentioned he knew Pat Copa of Verdant Vista Farm in Oregon who raises Pygora.  One look at the pictures, and we feel in love.  Delta Airlines flew Banjo to our airport, and we picked him up as a buckling in as small dog crate.  Less than a month later, a starter herd of five arrived from the East Coast and picked up another doe on the way.  Surprisingly, the does and bucks that arrived at our paddocks were from very prominent farms and ranches that spanned the whole country.

A couple of does were from Pygora East, a very prodigious Pygora farm owned by a veterinarian who was selling out to move onto greener pastures in his career.  Pygora East goats are renowned for the nurtured breeding program to cultivate varied caramel colors into their fleece.  Two bucks and one doe were from Hawks Mountain Ranch in Oregon, one of the largest Pygora breeders in the United States.  Sires and dams from their ranch are unsurpassable in quality.  One doe came from Harmony Homestead Farm located in Rhode Island.

Now five years down the road, we have never looked back.  We enjoy every minutes with these intelligent and very friendly animals.
